Fundraising

Q. What activity can I do to make up my 50km?

add remove

A: Anything that moves you forward! Walk, run, roll in a wheelchair, on rollerblades, cycle, ride a horse, swim, or use a rowing machine. Every kilometre counts, no matter your mobility level or pace.

Q. Do I have to do 50km in one go?

add remove

A. Not at all! You have the entire month of November to log your 50km. That’s just under 1.7km a day, completely achievable at your own pace! Or double it with a team!

Q. Where does the money go?

add remove

100% of proceeds directly support Pegasus ACT. Your funds cover:

  • Daily feed, supplements, and specialized farrier care for our therapy ponies.

  • Routine and emergency veterinary care.

  • Program scholarships for local families in financial need.

  • Maintenance and safety upgrades for our ACT farm facilities.

Q: Are donations tax-deductible?

add remove

A: Yes! All donations of $2 or more made through your online fundraising page are tax-deductible.
Donors will automatically receive a tax receipt via email after donating.

Q. Is there a fundraising minimum?

A. No. In honour of 5o years, and 50 more to come, we encourage every participant to aim for at least $50 ($1 for every kilometre!). If you want to push further, you can easily raise your goal on your profile page at any time.

Getting Started

Q. Can I participate as a team?

add remove
A. Yes - here at Pegasus we are all about team work! You can register or join a team with friends, family, schoolmates, or work colleagues.
Teams can tackle a combined target—like 500km and $5,000—and split the distance however works best for the group.

The Cause

Q: What is the 50 for 50 Challenge?

add remove

A: It’s a peer-to-peer fundraising event celebrating 50 years of Pegasus Riding for the Disabled ACT! Throughout November, participants move 50km (walk, run, roll, cycle, or ride) and aim to raise $50+ to support our therapy ponies and community programs for another 50 years!

Q: When does the challenge take place?

add remove

A: Registrations will open from 5 October.

The official challenge runs from November 1 to November 30. However, you can register, set up your fundraising page, and start collecting donations as soon as sign-ups open!

Q: What is equine-assisted therapy and how does it work?

add remove

A: Equine-assisted therapy uses the natural movement of horses to deliver physical, occupational, and emotional therapy. A horse’s gait mimics the exact three-dimensional pelvic movement of human walking. Riding stimulates core muscle groups, improves balance and coordination, and helps riders build posture, joint mobility, and motor skills—all while having fun outdoors.

Q: Who does Pegasus support in our community?

add remove

A: Pegasus supports children and young people across the ACT and surrounding regions living with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum conditions, sensory processing needs, and mental health challenges.

Our tailored programs empower participants to achieve personal milestones, gain physical strength, and build lifelong confidence.

Q: Why are therapy horses so unique?

add remove

A: Our therapy ponies are absolute champions, but they aren't ordinary riding horses. They undergo specialised, ongoing training to remain calm, gentle, and intuitive around riders with complex physical and sensory needs. Their calm demeanor creates a safe space where riders feel accepted, understood, and capable.

Q: What makes Pegasus special in the ACT region?

add remove

A: For 50 years, Pegasus has been a vital part of the Canberra community, offering accessible equine programs on our dedicated farm in Holt. Combining experienced coaches, allied health insights, a hard-working herd, and a wonderful network of volunteers, we provide a warm, inclusive haven where riders can thrive beyond their expectations.

Q: Why do we need to raise funds for pony care, farm maintenance and participant involvement?

add remove

A: Delivering safe, high-quality programs requires significant resources. Our therapy herd requires daily specialised feed, dietary supplements, regular hoof care from farriers, custom gear, and veterinary checkups.

Additionally, maintaining safe paddocks, sensory trails, and mounting ramps at our local farm ensures our facilities remain secure and accessible for every rider who steps onto the grounds.

Participants are the heartbeat of Pegasus, being able to provide scholarships to riders who would otherwise not be eligible under a government scheme or able to afford it is part of our mission.

Registration

Q: Who can take part?

add remove

A: Everyone! People of all ages, fitness levels, and abilities are invited to participate, whether as an individual, a family, a school group, a local club, or a corporate team.

Q: How do I set up or join a team?

add remove

If you’ve already registered as an individual, log into your account, go to your dashboard settings, and choose the option to attach your page to a team.

Q: What happens after I finish registering?

add remove

A: You’ll receive a welcome email with a link to your personalised fundraising page. From there, you can customise your profile photo, share your link on social media, download our fundraiser toolkit, and start logging your kilometres on November 1st!

Q: Is there a deadline to register?

add remove

A: Sign-ups will remain open unitl 15 November, this means if you're a little late to the party you can still achieve a reasonable goal of 50km for the month.  However, registering early gives you more time to spread the word, collect donations, and plan out your 50km movement goal.
